Christopher Bollen, the editor-at-large of Interview Magazine, will debut his sophomore novel, “Orient,” a murder mystery set in the Long Island town of the same name this May.

The events will unfold in the small picturesque town where artists such as Rob Pruitt, Elizabeth Peyton, Wade Guyton, and Kelley Walker are actual residents, reports Page Six.

Fictional art reviews by art critics and power couple Roberta Smith (art critic for the New York Times) and Jerry Saltz (art critic for New York Magazine) will be included alongside stereotypical art world personas like the “Swiss gallerist”, “Russian collector,” and “crazy older photographer.” (We’re just excited to see which one of these characters gets axed.)

Bollen, who writes about art and culture for Interview, says he had some art world friends advise him on the book, but that they asked “not to be thanked” in print. This comes as no surprise, as the usually “insiders-only” industry has been known to deflect any kind of exposure.

“It seemed like a terrific opportunity to take on the art world outside of the predictable galleries and art fairs,” said Bollen when asked of the novel’s rustic setting.

Eager fans will have to wait until May 5 for what’s sure to be this summer’s guilty pleasure read for the art world.
