Bringing together a dynamic selection of artworks from across periods, movements, styles, and regions, Galerie Thomas is currently presenting their online Autumn Sale exhibition. Featuring upwards of 60 artworks—from contemporary sculpture to Modern abstraction and Art Nouveau—the exhibition sparks intriguing dialogues through the juxtaposition of various pieces and offers an exploratory survey of art of the past century and beyond. Viewable from any browser through November 29, 2024, the Autumn Sale offers an intriguing opportunity to see works from various points across art history all in one place.
Galerie Thomas was founded in 1964, and has since garnered international acclaim for its representation of German Expressionist and Modern art, as well as its honed focus on groups, such as Blaue Reiter and Bauhaus, as well as the oeuvres of seminal artists like Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde, Wassily Kandinsky, and Pablo Picasso, just to name a few. Paralleling this specialty and expertise is a growing attention to contemporary voices in art, expanding the gallery’s thematic and period focus considerably—which speaks to the diversity and quality of the gallery’s Autumn Sale.
Highlights of the Autumn Sale include a vibrant pastel by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, Studie für “Fruit” (1897), exemplary of Mucha’s timeless and beloved signature Art Nouveau style. Elsewhere, Landscape (1932) by Max Lieberman and Die Vase (The Vase) (1946) independently showcase their maker’s aesthetic skill, but together illuminate the unique ways each of the German artists approached highly traditional genres of painting, landscape and still life, just ten years apart from each other. And while works on paper by artists such as Kirchner, August Macke, and Otto Mueller speak to the gallery’s greatest expertise and reputation, inclusions of contemporary pieces, such as Marc Quinn’s The Beauty of Healing (2014) or works by Takashi Murakami, reflect a dedication to importance of artwork and artist that transcends period or place.
Whether looking for something specific or hoping to discover something new, the Autumn Sale is an opportune moment to explore an incredible breadth of 20th- and 20th–century art.
