New works by Robert Gober, Thomas Demand, and Roman Polanski, and an inaugural exhibition titled “Serial Classic,” will mark the opening of Fondazione Prada’s new Milan venue in May this year. The exhibition, which is curated by art historian Salvatore Settis, will link the new space with a related show at the foundation’s Venice location.

Architecture firm OMA and its founder Rem Koolhaas have designed the building, which has seen the merging of an early 20^th century distillery in Largo Isarco, in the South of Milan, with three new structures.

The opening of the foundation’s new space will see a number of exciting exhibitions and displays. ‘Serial Classic’ and its Venetian counterpart “Portable Classic,” will be open from May 9 through August 24, 2015 and will focus on classical sculpture and the relationship between originality and imitation in Roman art. More than 70 artworks will be on view and the show will explore ideas of lost originals, copies of artworks, materiality and the methods used to create reproductions. OMA has also designed the display system.

In addition to “Serial Classic,” the foundation will present a number of unique events and projects. Sculptors Robert Gober and Thomas Demand will design installations specifically produced for, and in correlation with, the space. Film director Roman Polanski will create a documentary and film series considering the cinematographic inspirations behind his artistic vision. Thematic exhibitions of a number of artworks from the Prada Fondazione’s own collection will also be displayed.
