The Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, is turning 40, and the institution is celebrating in style with a glitzy bash at New York’s 4 World Trade Center on November 9. The reasoning for the location: fundraising is expected to be on a scale the museum has never previously seen.

Guests will gather to honor 40 of the world’s most significant contemporary artists in recognition of the role they played not only in shaping the Hirshhorn Museum’s legacy, but also the contemporary cultural landscape of present-day America.

The celebrations will be led by the board of trustees, former director Jim Demetrion, artists Ann Hamilton, Olga Hirshhorn, Julian Sands, Ellsworth Kelly, and Yoko Ono, and co-chaired by Pace Gallery’s Arne and Marc Glimcher.

To mark the occasion, the museum is honoring some of the best and brightest artistic talents of their generation including Marina Abramovic, Ai Weiwei, Allen Jones, Anish Kapoor, Jeff Koons, Lee Ufan, and Shirin Neshat.

Guests can look forward to a cocktail reception followed by an exclusive seated dinner with spectacular views over Manhattan. The evening will be capped by a highly anticipated performance from Theaster Gates.

The proceeds raised will go towards the institution’s program—both in Washington D.C. and online—to ensure the museum’s future will be as illustrious as its past.

“We are celebrating a crucial moment in the history of the Hirshhorn,” Melissa Chiu, director of the museum said in a statement. “We are inspired by the rich legacy left by Joseph Hirshhorn and all those who have helped create this landmark institution of modern and contemporary art. Now we have the incredibly exciting responsibility of building on that legacy.”
