As reported by the Art Newspaper, Russian installation artist Irina Nakhova has been selected to represent her country at the 2015 Venice Biennale, marking the first time a woman has been invited to present her work in the Russian Pavilion. Nakhova is known for her immersive “total installations.” A curator has not yet been announced.
Nakhova was honored last year as the winner of Russia’s Kandinsky Prize. Her winning installation incorporated old family photos, including some of the artist’s grandfather, who lost his life during the Stalinist purges. The work will be on view at New York’s Nailya Alexander Gallery, April 1–May 17, 2014.
