Creative Time may be going to Venice. Okwui Enwezor, director of the 56th Venice Biennale, which opens May 9, has invited the New York public art nonprofit organization to participate, according to the Biennale press office, which says that it’s “unofficial” and “in the air” at this point and they’re awaiting confirmation from Creative Time. Representatives of Creative Time did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Creative Time has for four decades organized public art exhibitions throughout New York, often socially and politically engaged and featuring artists such as Nick Cave, Paul Chan, Trevor Paglen, Michael Rakowitz, Tom Sachs, and Kara Walker. Walker’s blockbuster project “A Subtlety” drew 130,000 visitors over its nine-weekend run, sometimes as many as 10,000 a day (see Beyonce, Jay Z and 130,552 Other People Visited Kara Walker’s Sphinx).

Creative Time is also known for its annual Creative Time Summit, a conference devoted to “artists and big ideas,” and for Creative Time Reports, a blog where artists report in various ways on social and political issues.

The organization is led by director Anne Pasternak; Nato Thompson is chief curator.

The Biennale, “All the World’s Futures,” will be “devoted to a fresh appraisal of the relationship of art and artists to the current state of things,” Enwezor announced in October (see Theme and Title of the Next Venice Biennale Announced.)

The 56th edition of the Venice Biennale will open to the public on May 9, 2015 and will run until November 22.
