Presumptive Presidential nominee Donald Trump may have some questionable political policies (to put it lightly), but when it comes to art, he’s the gift that keeps on giving.
Hot on the heels of the Art Basel spotting of a Hitler-esque mini Trump sculpture done in the style of Maurizio Cattelan comes Japanese Donald Trump Commercial, a hypnotically-brilliant video from Los Angeles-based film director and special effects artist Mike Diva.
“I made a commercial for my senpai—future world president Donald Trump,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that he was “super anxious rn. hope u guys like this.”
If you haven’t watched it already, expect the video, which has garnered over 350,000 views since being uploaded to YouTube yesterday afternoon, to be lighting up your Facebook feed in the near future.
The video begins in a teenage girl’s bedroom, where the pin-up photos of boy band idols have been replaced with shots of the Donald. As our blue-haired protagonist lovingly strokes a framed photograph of Trump, he suddenly winks, and her TV turns on, broadcasting a news report of the orange-haired politician’s recent election to the post of world president.
From there, our heroine is transported to a Trump fantasy world, where bombs fly like fireworks, the former “Apprentice” star’s absurdly-coiffed head grows on trees, and the Donald turns into a Transformer and flies into outer space only to blow the Earth to smithereens. It’s one minute eleven seconds of lightning-quick action that reminds you that Pokémon once gave a whole bunch of people seizures.
“Trumpu, 2016,” chirps the voice of an upbeat young woman as the wreckage of our planet fades to black.
“All I wanna do is make stuff that’s pretty/funny/terrifying at the same time,” wrote Diva on Twitter, who has certainly succeeded with this candy-coated nightmare of a video.
When asked by another Twitter user if the piece was “meant to make him look bad??” Diva was somewhat diplomatic, writing, “I dunno. i guess it depends on whether u think swastikas and trump literally blowing up the planet is bad.”
