If memories are the greatest treasures we own, then Jeffrey Deitch is clearly winning this week, at least according to his latest Instagram posts.
The legendary dealer recently started an Instagram account, and he’s feeding his followers a steady stream of #ThrowbackThursdays, featuring the likes of Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and other notable artists he’s hung out with over the past few decades.
He’s also shared a Fischerspooner performance photo from Art Basel in Miami snapped in 2002, as well as a couple of campaign posters from when he ran as a “reform candidate” for president of his high school student council.
The gallerist returned to New York in 2015 to restart his old Deitch Projects space on 76 Grand Street. Since re-opening, Deitch has shown works by the buzzed-about ‘Wolfpack’ Angulo Brothers as well as large-scale drawings and objects by the late Keith Haring. Currently on view is a solo exhibition of works by Tom Sachs titled “Nuggets.”
“Tom and I have discussed presenting his work in my gallery since 1996, but it took twenty years to realize an exhibition,” Deitch said in a statement about the show. He described “Nuggets” as a “presentation of Sachsified versions of Modernist masterpieces.” You can still catch the show at Deitch’s Soho gallery space, which runs until June 4.
Suffice it to say, Deitch boasts many powerful relationships in the art world. See some of them below.
