Rare and intimate photos of legendary Seattle grunge band Nirvana will go on sale for the first time in the show “On the Road and in the Studio with Nirvana” at Glenn Green Galleries this summer.

The Sante Fe gallery will present prints by Shelli Hyrkas, the former wife of Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. The ten images come from the photographer’s archives, and are being offered for sale for the first time. Owning a piece of Nirvana history is a fairly reasonable proposition: prices range from $180 to $780.

The famous band and its charismatic singer, Kurt Cobain, still command attention in the art and pop-culture spheres (see Kurt Cobain Spurs New Grunge-Era Show and Kurt Cobain’s Credit Card Hits Auction Block).

Moments captured by Hyrkas include Nirvana’s take on a famous photograph of the Beatles boarding a plane, Cobain dressing up for Halloween, a candid backstage shot, and the band practicing in the studio.

Hyrkas’ photographs will also make a cameo in the upcoming HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, by director Brett Morgen.

“On the Road and in the Studio with Nirvana” will be on view at Glenn Green Galleries in Sante Fe, New Mexico from June 13–August 30.
