In celebration of its 160th birthday, the company Louis Vuitton has teamed up with some of the most influential personalities in the worlds of fashion, art, and design. Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Cindy Sherman, Christian Louboutin, Marc Newson, and Rei Kawakubo have worked to redesign the fashion brand’s iconic ‘LV’ monogram. The group have created limited-edition handbags and accessories for the new project, which is titled “Icon and the Iconoclasts: A Celebration of Monogram.”

Karl Lagerfeld’s punching bag has arguably been the collection’s most talked-about piece. The life-size creation comes inside a large trunk, together with a stand, a mat, and boxing gloves, and can be purchased for approximately $175,000. Speaking about the trunk, the designer said, “It is a huge toy for spoilt, grown-up people!”

Cindy Sherman has created her very own unique and eye-catching version of the classic trunk. The case, of which only 25 were made, is the artist’s first-ever non-photographic project, and one which she says was “so fun to do!” It comes complete with labels for the various compartments.

It is not surprising that the fashion house asked architect-of-the-moment Frank Gehry to join in too. Gehry’s small and simple trunk is, according to him, “playful, but in a serious way,” and can definitely be seen to echo the forms of the designer’s recently opened Vuitton museum in Paris.”
