It’s time once again for ARCOmadrid, a highlight of Europe’s art fair circuit. This year, the event will draw a total of 211 galleries from 29 countries, including a curated selection of 20 exhibitors under the title “what is going to happen is not ‘the future,’ but what we are going to do.” Lots to think about there!

While you’re mulling it over, why not explore Madrid’s local galleries? You might find some answers while you’re at it. Galería Elvira González is currently hosting the work of Olafur Eliasson in a show titled, appropriately enough, “A view of things to come.” The Icelandic-Danish artist explores human perception of temporality through a variety of media, and is almost always surprising. Then, over at Artlandia, you will find a variety of dramatic, textural paintings by Spanish artist Luis Feito López. If that’s not your thing, head on over to Galeria Marta Cervera for a presentation of drawings by Raha Raissnia, which was previously displayed at New York’s The Drawing Center. Throughout this series, Raissnia displays her characteristic subtle touch and the conceptual rigor of her practice. Lastly, you’d be remiss to miss the bold exhibition of Gregor Hildebrandt currently on view at Galería Casado Santapau. Give special attention to his ceiling installation, which serves to highlight the artist’s playful approach to geometric abstraction in a refreshing way.
