THE DAILY PIC (#1362): More work from the Jim Shaw solo now at Mass MoCA, which I’m allowing myself to choose as a second Pic by Shaw because it’s so utterly different from yesterday’s. (I especially admire his range.) Today’s pair of images is from a series called Forces of Nature. The image on the left (Multiple Vortexes) captures the most basic gestalt of the whole field of cartooning and animation: Cartoons make stuff happen, loud and fast and stylishly. The one on the right (Hair) shows that even when not a thing is going on in terms of action and plot, the visuals alone can trigger mental explosions.
Of course, both images can also stand as metaphors for all of art, which I hope is one of nature’s major forces. (Images courtesy MassMoCA)
