The Absolut Art Award keeps a (heavy) finger on the pulse. After tapping the acclaimed dOCUMENTA 13 curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev to serve as jury president for its 2013 edition, the vodka brand-sponsored biennial art prize has appointed for the 2015 award Massimiliano Gioni, still glowing from his Venetian success.

Gioni, who is director of exhibitions at the New Museum in New York and Artistic Director at the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi in Milan, will lead a prestigious jury composed of Doryun Chong, chief curator at M+, Hong Kong; Magali Arriola, curator at the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City; Jessica Morgan, Daskalopoulos Curator, International Art at Tate Modern, as well as Bidoune editor Negar Azimi.

Each of the jury member will invite two nominators to suggest up to five artists and one art writer–generating a pool of up to 50 artists and 10 writers to choose from. The winning artist will get €20,000 cash prize and a €100,000 production budget to realize what Absolut calls their “dream project.” The winner in the art writing category will also get €20,000 cash prize, but writers’ “dream projects” being notoriously cheaper to realize, their production budget will only stretch to €25,000.
