Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is set to star in The Burnt Orange Heresy, a new film directed by Giuseppe Capotondi that debuts at the 76th Venice International Film Festival (August 28–September 7).

Set in present-day Italy, Jagger plays Cassidy, a powerful art collector and patron of a reclusive painter named Jerome Debney, played by Donald Sutherland. Debney is likened to J.D. Salinger, who famously stopped publishing his work after the success of The Catcher in the Rye.

At Cassidy’s estate on Lake Como, he recruits an American couple, young ingenue Berenice Hollis (Elizabeth Debicki) and art critic James Figueras (Claes Bang) to steal a painting from Debney’s studio. But the pair soon finds themselves in over their heads, according to the plot synopsis.

“The art world and the underworld collide in this erotic neo-noir thriller,” reads the movie’s official press release, as translated from the original Italian by cineuropa. The English-language film will have the honor of closing out the festival, screening after the awards ceremony.

There are other high-profile art heist-themed films in the works right now, including the long-awaited adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Goldfinch, hitting theaters September 19.

Further down the pipeline is Red Notice, about an attempt to catch the world’s most notorious art thieves. With Ryan Reynolds and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot as the sophisticated criminals, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Interpol agent chasing them down, the film was recently acquired by Netflix from Universal Pictures and is set to begin production in January. Meanwhile, a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair starring Michael B. Jordan is also in development.
