Frieze Week is upon us, fellow New Yorkers, and what a glorious week of weather it has the fortune of coinciding with. We know you’re probably excited to explore the various art fairs over the weekend, so we have a guide for that, and you’re probably looking for the cool places to eat, drink, and shop too, so we also have another guide for that. But in between zipping through the booths at Frieze or TEFAF, you should also be making time for the city’s gallery shows—and this is the guide for that.

You’ll of course want to head to Chelsea, where you can see an interesting John Baldessari show at Marian Goodman Gallery. There, the artist mashes up the aesthetics of Piet Mondrian and Francis Picabia into a fun and wholly new series. Then, head over to Steven Kasher Gallery, where the current photography show surveys the work of established and up-and-coming artists from Africa and its diaspora. The show covers a range of practices, but is unified in the artists’ dedication to “bridg[ing] the gap between Black stereotypes Black and Black reality,” as explained in the press release. Across town at Simon Lee gallery, you can find “Towards Infinity: 1965–1980,” a major group show exploring the international conceptual art from that era, including works by Daniel Buren, Andre Cadere, and Pier Paolo Calzolari.

And there’s plenty more what that came from. With exhibitions like these, you’re looking at a jam-packed weekend. Find artnet’s full list of picks below.
