Celebrations at Storm King Art Center and The Glass House salute summer.

If this past weekend is any indication, New York art insiders are itching to leave the city. Two separate celebrations took place outside the five boroughs: one at Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, New York, and the other at The Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut. Both parties were generously attended by people happy to get some fresh air.
Storm King Art Center Summer Solstice Celebration:
Guests had the chance to explore Storm King’s massive grounds, including guided tours of two new installations. The reception took place next to Zhang Huan’s Evoking Tradition, which comprises six sculptures, most notably a large, three-legged Buddha statue. Many attendees took the opportunity to visit Virginia Overton’s Outlooks, a transformative, site-specific installation which features a thin metal tube spanning 400 feet, allowing for an array of unique aural and visual experiences. Finally, guests were treated to a gourmet, farm-sourced meal under the stars in the di Suvero Fields.

The Glass House Summer Party:
The Philip Johnson Glass House sits on a picturesque 49-acre campus, and the annual Summer Party boasted a benefit committee including Dustin Yellin, Beth Rudin DeWoody and Nan Goldin. Guests sipped champagne and enjoyed a festive picnic while taking in the majesty of the grounds. Visitors were also given a showing of Fujiko Nakaya’s Veil, a temporary installation that engages with the iconic house using a dense veil of mist that renders it invisible for several minutes, only to slowly return as the fog dissipates.
