Phillips will inaugurate its new auction house and exhibition space in London’s Mayfair on October 6th with a group exhibition of contemporary sculpture, dreamt up by star curator Francesco Bonami. The exhibition will be on view during Frieze Week, alongside works to be offered at the Contemporary Art Evening and Day Auctions on October 15th and 16th.

“A Very Short History of Contemporary Sculpture” includes 33 works by internationally renowned artists, including Carl Andre, Bruce Nauman, Louise Bourgeois, Felix González-Torres, Matthew Barney, Damien Hirst, Donald Judd, Jeff Koons, and Ai Weiwei. Only two of those (by Barry Flanagan and Danh Vo) will be included in the auctioneer’s upcoming sales.

“The concept behind ‘A Very Short History of Contemporary Sculpture’ is to show the direct dialogue of relevant sculptural works from different periods in a fun and interesting way,” said Bonami.

“We are very fortunate be able to cooperate with Francesco Bonami on this fantastic project,” said Edward Dolman, Phillips’ CEO and Chairman, in a press statement. “The exhibition ‘A Very Short History of Contemporary Sculpture’ will perfectly complement our new exhibition space at 30 Berkeley Square; its double-height showrooms flooded with natural light make it the ideal stage for the monumental and iconic works featured in this exhibition,” he continued, praising the 73,000-square-foot building that will host Phillips’s European HQ.
