Berlin’s PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art, located in St. Agnes Church, the Brutalist building in the heart of Berlin that also houses Galerie Johann König, has announced that it will close in mid June.

Having established itself as one of the city’s premier alternative art venues, the non-profit space leaves Berlin’s arts scene after two memorable years of exhibitions, publications, talks, screenings, and performances (see Meet The Next Generation of Berlin Art Gallery Dealers and For Collectors, To Go to Berlin Is To Go to “The Source”).

Founding directors Rhea Dall and Kristine Siegel revealed that they will join the 2016 Bergen Assembly in Norway as co-conveners, where the pair will continue thier dedication to alternative artistic practices.

In a joint statement Dall and Siegel explained, “The ongoing commitment and overwhelming attention paid by artists, audiences, press, and fellow arts professionals in Berlin and abroad, for which we are incredibly grateful, convince us that there is a place for, a demand of, and a growing potential in a different kind of artistic and curatorial collaboration, pace, and devotion.”

Founded in August 2013 PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art worked with half-year cycles of exhibition modules, publications, and live activities that focused on two unassociated artists at a time.

The institution presented exhibitions and events with the likes of Gerard Byrne, Matt Mullican, Jason Dodge, Jutta Koether, and many others.

The current cycle featuring Chris Evans and Rimini Protokoll ends on 13 June with a grand finissage party.
