The picturesque seaside city of Aarhus, Denmark, is packed with incredible sculptures until July 5 thanks to Sculpture by the Sea, a biannual initiative, begun in 1995, that also takes place in Australia.
Since 2009, Aarhus has welcomed over 50 artists from 24 countries to exhibit both large and small-scale sculptures on various public lawns, beaches, and forests in and around the city. There is also an indoor area for table-sized sculptures.
In previous years, the Aarhus event has attracted half a million visitors—a rather incredible number given that Denmark has just over 5 million residents. According to the Conversation, the budget is 15.5 million kr. ($2.32 million), which is obtained through a mixture of government funding, business donations, and philanthropic fundraising.
Sculpture by the Sea takes place from June 5—July 5, 2015.
