Sesame Street’s beloved blue cookie addict is cruising the Guggenheim and other New York museums today, courtesy of Mashable.
What school of art criticism will Cookie Monster bring to bear on what he sees? Judging by his observation about a Cézanne still life, his appetite is drowning out his critical faculties.
Naturally, social media jokesters have taken hold of the image of Cookie Monster, posing him in front of more controversial artworks such as Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ at the request of New York artist Jayson Musson.
A little blue language (sorry) is also making an appearance in a Photoshopped version of Cookie Monster in front of a Christopher Wool painting that hung at the Guggenheim a year ago in a Wool retrospective.
Musson tweeted, “I wonder if Cookie Monster know about Guggenheim Abu Dhabi labor abuses?”
Cookie Monster isn’t the only Sesame Street character with a taste for art. Bert, of Bert and Ernie fame, has also been sighted at the Musée D’Orsay.
