Art dealership Timothy Taylor, already well established for their extensive London gallery in Mayfair, is expanding to the United States. The new space will be the gallery’s first across the pond and is set to open in New York City at the end of September.

Dubbed 16×34, after the dimensions of the new space (in feet), the New York venue will occupy the ground floor of an impressive Chelsea townhouse. Continuing the pattern established in London, the new gallery will host curated group and solo exhibitions of both historical and contemporary artists.

“16×34 will capture the spirit of the London program but apply that vision to the hub of the New York art scene,” Founder Tim Taylor says of the move. “I wanted a unique space that would allow us to offer something different whilst being in close dialogue with the neighborhood. I’m looking forward to having this physical presence.”

For two decades Timothy Taylor has been building a reputation for their multi-generational roster of high-profile artists, all of whom share an interest in Post-War Abstraction. Artists represented have included Sean Scully, Kiki Smith, Alex Katz, and Gabriel de la Mora, apt contemporary peers of the likes of Antoni Tàpies, Diane Arbus, and Serge Poliakoff.

16×34 will dedicate its debut exhibition to the late Mexican modernist architect Luis Barrágan, whose serene and mystical work is infused with religious spirituality that has profoundly influenced generations of architects, and earned him the title of second ever laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1980.

Timothy Taylor 16×34 will open its doors the week of 19 September, 2016, at 515 West 19th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. The debut exhibition will run until 19 November.
