Swiss cigar maker Davidoff has announced the launch of an art residency program in the Dominican Republic, overseen by the company’s philanthropic arm, Davidoff Art Initiative. Starting January 2015, five yet-to-be-revealed international artists will get to spend 10 weeks in new facilities at Altos de Chavón School of Design in La Romana. Curators and art writers researching art production in the Caribbean might also be invited.

The final list of residents will be chosen by Davidoff’s International Advisory Council, on suggestions of the nominators, who include this year the Delfina Foundation’s Aaron Cézar, SITE Santa Fe’s chief curator Irene Hoffman, and the director of the National Gallery of the Bahamas Amanda Coulson.
