There’s more than one way to become a famous artist. Just ask Jane Rosenberg, the courtroom sketch artist whose botched drawing of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went viral last week, eclipsing the contentious “DeflateGate” hearing last week.
According to the New York Daily News, Rosenberg has received approximately 25 offers to purchase the much-lampooned sketch, and has also been asked to loan it, along with her drawings from the trial of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, to the Sports Museum in Boston. Unfortunately, she’s also gotten over 700 emails from angry fans, harsh critics, and members of the media.
Rosenberg has not yet decided what to do with the drawing, and noted that many of the potential buyers neglected to list specific dollar amounts in their queries to her. “I don’t have a clue what it’s truly worth. This isn’t a normal sketch I’m selling to some assistant U.S. attorney. It might be a different arena entirely—sports memorabilia.”
Given that one of the allegedly lighter-than-average footballs from the “DeflateGate” game recently sold for for $43,739, sports memorabilia might not be such a bad category for Rosenberg after all.
After the Internet exploded with parodies of her curious depiction of the football star, Rosenberg was quick to apologize for, as she put it, “[making] him look like Lurch.”
“I apologize to Tom Brady for not making him as good-looking as he is,” she stated to several news outlets, much to the chagrin of Indianapolis Colts fans everywhere, who were likely hoping she did it on purpose. “[I am] under a lot of pressure to work very quickly and do the best I can on the short deadline I’m on.”
