The Gemäldegalerie in Berlin and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum have joined forces to present a comprehensive exhibition of works by the early Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli, Monopol reports.

Botticelli is not only regarded as one of the leading painters of the Italian Renaissance, but also as an icon of pop culture. The exhibition, thus, will pay tribute to the artist’s enduring influence on art, design, and fashion, which can be traced to the present day.

The core of the show will be formed of 40 works by Botticelli. The exhibition will also feature 130 works by artists inspired by the Italian master, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, René Magritte, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Andy Warhol.

“Our Berlin-based Botticelli collection, consisting of 8 paintings and 86 drawings, is the the most significant outside of Italy,” Michael Eissenhauer, director of Gemäldegalerie, told Monopol. “Where, if not the Gemäldegalerie, would be a more appropriate place to dedicate an exhibition to this artist and his legacy?,” he continued.

Martin Roth, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum, added: “We are pleased about this partnership allowing us to reexamine the works of Botticelli, which has been made possible by sharing resources and expertise between both partners.”

The exhibition is scheduled to open in Berlin in September 2015, and will arrive to London in March 2016.
