Shia LaBeouf had to confront a right wing protester who tried to interrupt his four-year protest work HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US (2017) which he devised with collaborators Nastja Säde Rönkö, and Luke Turner, which is being live streamed on the internet 24 hours a day by a camera installed next the Museum of Moving Image in New York.
The broadcast of the work started on Friday January 20, and was kicked off by actor Jaden Smith, who began the chant of “He will not divide us” that morning. The number of people that gathered to protest Trump escalated throughout the weekend, as word spread about the project.
Yesterday, Monday January 23, a lone white supremacist attempted to troll the busy protest by creeping up to the camera and repeating the number 14, which is the white supremacist code for “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children,” according to Vulture.
The man appears to dance among the protesters grinning to himself. He then tries to goad LaBeouf, who then who shouts “He will not divide us” repeatedly in response to the provocation, blocking the man from the camera in a heated exchange.
The protester, who appears to be dressed as the famous inspector gadget, finally gives up on either starting a fight or passing his message and leaves.
HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US—LaBeouf’s latest collaboration with artists Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner—will be live streaming on the internet for the duration of Donald Trump’s presidency, and those wishing to protest are invited to repeat the name of the work in solidarity with others who feel the same.
