It was a star-studded day at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, with the cast and crew of the forthcoming Will Smith movie Collateral Beauty descending on the museum’s lobby restaurant, Untitled, on March 8.
Directed by David Frankel and written by Allan Loeb, Collateral Beauty is slated to premiere December 16. According to the Daily Mail, filming began in New York on February 22.
According to IMDb, the film centers around “a tragic event sends a New York ad man on a downward spiral.” Smith plays the suffering advertising executive whose colleagues hire a character played by Helen Mirren to help him bounce back. Kate Winslet, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Jonah Hill, Michael Peña, and Enrique Murciano also star in the film.
Earlier in the week, Norton and Knightley were spotted filming on the streets of New York.
At the Whitney, the Norton and Winslet sat across from each other for a meal. Filming was confined to the restaurant, and did not feature anything in the museum’s collection.
The Collateral Beauty shoot wasn’t the only Hollywood action at the Whitney yesterday: John Slattery, known for his role of Roger Sterling on “Mad Men,” and a noted art collector, was spotted by a museum staffer, on a tour with one of the museum’s trustees. “It was just celebrity central at the Whitney today,” she told artnet News.
artnet News reached out to the Union Square Hospitality Group, which operates the museum’s Danny Meyer restaurant, for comment, but had not heard back at press time.
