“Don Quixote Fever in European Tapestry,” a lecture at the Frick Collection
Charles Coypel‘s masterpiece tapestry is the focus of the Frick’s special exhibition “Coypel’s Don Quixote Tapestries: Illustrating a Spanish Novel in Eighteenth-Century France.” This discussion with Koenraad Brosnens from the University of Leuven, Belgium, examines the feverish rivalry characterizing the tapestry industry at the time. The event is free.

THURSDAY March 12
An Evening with Monir and Frank Stella at the Guggenheim
U.S. premiere of Monir (2014), the documentary on Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, an Iranian artist who worked with Andy Warhol, friended Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, and then married a Shah in Iran and had her work destroyed. The screening is followed by a discussion with Frank Stella and curator Suzanne Cotter on the artistic centers of Tehran and New York in the 1960s and 70s. Tickets are $12, $8 for members, and free for students who RSVP.

Alfredo Jaar with David Levi Strauss in discussion at 92nd Street Y
In conjunction with his show at Galerie Lelong, Chilean conceptual artist Alfredo Jaar sits with David Levi Strauss, art critic and chair of the graduate program in Art Criticism and Writing at the New York School of Visual Arts. They will discuss Jaar’s politically motivated work, globalization, and how Jaar incorporates audience participation. Tickets are $30.

“Yoshinori Hashimoto ‘Transient'” opens at Gallery Juno
In this solo exhibition, Yoshinori Hashimoto‘s candid photos offer a glimpse into the lives of those encountered during his travels. “Transient” is a series of luminous photographs taken in Morocco, Africa, Peru, India, Mexico and Tibet.

“Mad Men” exhibition opens at the Museum of the Moving Image
Mad Men fans contain your excitement. This new exhibition explores the creative world behind the cult series, which launches its final episodes on AMC in April. Don Draper’s office set, iconic costumes, props, advertisement art, and personal notes from creator Matthew Weiner will be on display. The exhibition represents a unique opportunity to see objects relating to the production of the hit television series, which will be shown publicly for the first time. The exhibition runs from March 14–June 14.
