Alexie Glass-Kantor is taking over as the curator of Art Basel in Hong Kong‘s Encounters sector for the fair’s 2015 edition. Encounters presents large-scale sculptures and installations from international artists in prominent places throughout the exhibition hall.

During the fair’s two previous editions, Encounters was headed by Yuko Hasegawa, chief curator of Tokyo’s Museum of Contemporary Art and curator of the 2013 Sharjah Biennial.

A curator and writer, Glass-Kantor serves as the executive director of Artspace in Sydney. A specialist in art of the Asia Pacific region, she has worked on a number of international curatorial exchanges and projects in Singapore, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Europe, and the United States. Glass-Kantor also served as the Asialink curator-in-residence at Ssamzie Space, Seoul, in 2005; and is currently deputy chair of the Contemporary Art Organizations of Australia and a board director of Australia’s National Association for the Visual Arts.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be part of the Art Basel curatorial team and I am very much looking forward to the collaboration,” said Glass-Kantor in a press release. “The show provides a unique opportunity to present a significant display of large-scale works by artists from across the region and globally. I am looking forward to presenting works in the multiple mediums and artistic languages being fostered as the cultural ecology in Asia grows.”
