Art Cologne—the world’s oldest Modern and contemporary art fair—returns this year for its 50th edition. From April 14–17, 2016, 219 galleries from 25 countries around the world will set up at Koelnmesse in Cologne.

Exhibitions will span three massive halls, with Hall 11.1 geared towards Modern and Postwar works, Hall 11.2 dedicated largely to blue-chip and mid-career contemporary artists, and Hall 11.3 devoted to up-and-coming galleries (less than ten years old) selected by a committee of their peers. This year’s “New Contemporaries” include New York’s Kate Werble, Berlin’s Alexander Levy, and London’s Evelyn Yard.

The acclaimed fair was launched on September 15, 1967 by Cologne-based artists Hein Stünke and Rudolf Zwirner (father of gallerist David Zwirner) as a means of breathing new life into the floundering West German art market at the time.
