WHY: This exhibition and auction was organized by artist Marcel Dzama and Paddle8 to benefit 826NYC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing supplementary writing services to children. WHY: If you’re up for the trip, the Glenn Horowitz Booksellers in East Hampton, New York, is hosting a special pop-up of rare and signed books with drawings and prints by Sue Webster, Damien Hirst and Richard Prince, among others.

WHAT: 1040 Lounge: Women of the Young Lords
WHERE: The Bronx Museum of the Arts
WHY: Concurrent with the Bronx Museum’s ¡Presente! The Young Lords in New York exhibition, this panel discusses the widely overlooked, and instrumental, role women played in the Puerto Rican nationalist organization. The event is hosted by Johanna Fernández and features panelists Iris Morales, Denise Oliver, Olguie Robles, Gloria Rodriguez, and Minerva Solla.

WHAT: Making Patterns
WHERE: South Street Seaport
WHY: As part of Eyebeam’s Computational Fashion initiative, Making Patterns is the center’s first exhibition at the South Street Seaport. The show will display technologically modified garments by artists Kaho Abe, Ben Cramer, and Cici Wu among others working with technical processes such as 3D printing and soft circuitry. Note: The event space is given to Eyebeam by the Howard Hughes Corporation.

WHAT: Truth and Subterfuge Launch and Reading Event
WHERE: Printed Matter Inc.
WHY: Saturday afternoon sees the launch of a collaborative project between artists Whitney Platt and Nickolaus Typaldos. With images provided by Typaldos and text from Platt, Truth and Subterfuge “locates the uncanny in the everyday.” Poets Platt, Jessica Lauffer, and Andrew Durbin will read.

WHAT: Albert Oehlen, Contemporary Painting Symposium
WHERE: The New Museum of Contemporary Art
WHY: A two-part event, each of which are hosted and moderated by different guests, the Contemporary Painting Symposium is the latest in the New Museum’s Discussion Series. The first discussion, Contemporary Abstraction, will focus on abstraction’s resurgence in recent years while the second, Digital Abstraction, explores the myriad ways in which new technologies and digital imaging techniques have influenced abstract painting.
