When visiting a new gallery, it’s always nice to leave your name and contact information in the guest book. That is, unless you’re planning on robbing the place. But according to authorities, this is exactly 24-year-old Megan Ohara and 19-year-old David Ziskowski did at a Palm Beach art gallery.
According to South Florida’s Sun Sentinel, the pair walked into the ICFA Gallery on October 18, where a show by the artist Attila J.K. was on display. Before leaving, they allegedly pocketed a bracelet and ring worth $6,000 that were sitting on a desk. The gallery manager contacted the authorities, and Ohara and Ziskowski were tracked down at a nearby Publix.
After being confronted, Ohara reportedly gave the officers the jewelry, and the pair were subsequently arrested.
The gallery manager later noticed that in addition to leaving an actual cell phone number along with the name “Meg” in the guest book, the pair also offered a picture of male genitalia, a drawing of a woman’s face (which was labeled “Meg”), and the fake email address “wedidnttakeit@gmail.com.”
As doltish as their actions may have been, Ohara and Ziskowski of course aren’t the first small-time thieves to bungle an alleged art-related heist. From the gallery assistant who chased a thief through New York City to thwart an attempt to steal booze to the infamous art heist at Taco Bell, we think we may have heard it all by now.
