Returning for the eighth time, this year’s edition of Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC) welcomes a host of new galleries from Asia and Latin America in what promises to be the most diverse fair yet.

Despite unparalleled international interest, the fair retains its distinctive Los Angeles flavor, with 27 of the 62 participants hailing from the West Coast metropolis. Indeed the modest-sized fair could be regarded as a snapshot or survey of artistic production in Los Angeles, according to director Tim Fleming.

“Art Los Angeles Contemporary is a product of Los Angeles’ unique cultural community composed of an incredibly vast and diverse array of artists, galleries, curators, institutions, collectors and enthusiasts,” Fleming said in a statement. “Touching on a multidisciplinary approach is the focus of this year’s fair, from our programming schedule that includes artists spanning pop culture and performance, to our Reader that considers the idiosyncrasies that make this city truly unique.”

New exhibitors traveling to the city to sample Los Angeles’ culture include Vermelho (São Paulo), 10 Chancery Lane (Hong Kong), 313 Art Project (Seoul), and Enrique Faria (Buenos Aires/New York).

Additionally the fair will restage its “Freeways” section, which offers a platform for emerging galleries and artists. Confirmed participants include Club Pro (Los Angeles), Jenny’s (Los Angeles), PPC Philipp Pflug Contemporary (Frankfurt), and Queer Thoughts (New York).

Meanwhile veteran exhibitors 1301PE (Los Angeles), Kayne Griffin Corcoran (Los Angeles), Night Gallery (Los Angeles), Peres Projects (Berlin), STANDARD (OSLO) (Oslo), and Susanne VIelmetter Los Angeles Projects (Los Angeles) signed up once again.

The fair has also announced a selection of specially commissioned on-site installations, including works by local artists Rafa Esparza and Timo Fahler, as well as performances by Puppies Puppies.
