Art fair organizer Art Miami announced today that its sister CONTEXT art fair is expanding, and will move to a new space just a block north of the previous location. The new digs will be a large tent adjacent to the major Art Miami event on 36th Street.
Since the launch with 68 exhibitors in 2012, the fair has grown rapidly, and tends to focus on emerging, mid-career, and cutting-edge artists from around the world. “It’s a good chance to try to get inside the international market,” a gallerist told artnet News last year.
This year’s edition will include exhibitors from 20 countries and 50 cities. As CONTEXT continues to hone its brand and identity, “it was the right time to move to a larger, more convenient location only 400 feet from its site,” said Art Miami director Nick Korniloff said in a statement. The larger facility “will allow for a more flexible design for the 100+ galleries exhibiting this year,” along with special collector and guest amenities and exhibition programs, such as this year’s focus presented by the Gallery Association of Korea.
Among the special projects CONTEXT will present this year, are “Sound Positions,” featuring 12 listening stations, “CONTEXT Projects,” in which artist work with new technologies, and a “Sculpture Garden,” which will feature site-specific artist presentations.
The fair will open with a VIP preview on Tuesday, November 29, that will benefit the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). It will remain open to the public through Sunday, December 4.
