International art competition ArtPrize, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, announced a number of changes to its award formatting for both its public and juried prizes. Most significantly, the amount given to the winner of the prestigious Juried Grand Prize will double, to US$200,000. Also doubling will be the number of finalists eligible for the second round in the Public Vote Award, with a “Final 20” replacing last year’s “Top 10.”

In another change, artists will submit their work in one of four categories: 2D, 3D, Time-Based, or Installation. The jury and the public will both award $20,000 to the winners in each division. Previously, all 10 finalists in the public vote received prize money: US$200,000 for first place, US$75,000 for second, US$50,000 for third, and US$5,000 for fourth through tenth places. The jury formerly awarded US$20,000 each in the categories of 2D, 3D, Time-Based, Urban Space, and Best Venue.

In 2013, 49,078 registered voters placed 446,850 total votes, with Michigan-based quilter Ann Loveless taking top honors. Spain’s Carlos Bunga was last year’s jury pick.

ArtPrize, which awards a total of US$560,000 in prize money annually, will host its sixth edition September 24–October 12, 2014.
