ASIA NOW, Europe’s only fair dedicated to Asian art, will double in size for its second edition in Paris this October, bringing over 30 galleries from 11 Asian territories to a new venue at 9 Avenue Hoche.
The boutique fair, which will coincide with Paris premier contemporary art fair FIAC, will bring galleries from countries ranging from Cambodia, Tibet, Thailand, and Vietnam to Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and Japan.
“Our goal is to shed light on the vast range of this artistic scene through a program of intelligible and powerful exhibitions, inviting visitors to rethink contemporary Asian art without the clichés often attached to it,” Alexandra Fain, the fair’s director and co-founder, said in a statement. “ASIA NOW is the ideal place to discover already established artists, recognized by both local and international specialists, yet overlooked to this day by Western audiences,” she added.
The fair program will include a group exhibition curated by Hervé Mikaeloff with Matthias Arndt, focusing on East Asian art from countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia, and artists such as Eko Nugroho; as well as a collaboration between Chinese design brand Shang Xia and Christie’s.
Meanwhile, the London-based non-profit The Centre of Attention/News of the World will showcase artists exploring the theme of globalization, with a performance work from Singaporean artist and Teow Yue Han and screenings from the Vietnamese Hanoi Doclab exhibition.
The “Women’s Independence Art Show,” curated by Magda Danysz, will celebrate 100 years of the French brand Etam, featuring the artists Liu Bolin, Li Hongbo, Stella Sujin, and Yi Zhu. The artworks will travel to from the K11 Foundation in Shanghai to the art fair, and will be auctioned off to raise money for the charity of supermodel Natalia Vodianova, Naked Heart Foundation.
New galleries in attendance will include Tokyo’s Arataniurano and Misa Shin galleries, L-Art Gallery of Chengdu, China, Park Ryu Sook Gallery from Seoul, and Chi-Wen Gallery from Taiwan.
The fair ASIA NOW will take place in 9 Avenue Hoche, Paris, from October 19- 23, 2016.
