Yes, you heard it right. This may be the chance to get your hands on work by some of the world’s most renowned artists for the nice round sum of $85.

Next weekend, Visual AIDS presents its 17th annual Postcards from the Edge, a two-day event hosted by Luhring Augustine gallery at their Chelsea location. Visual AIDS asks artists from around the world, at various stages in their career, to create and donate an original 4″ x 6″ artwork. This year’s artist roster includes some bold-faced names such as John Waters, Ed Ruscha, Hans Haacke, Paul Chan, Robert Longo, Lawrence Weiner, Lorraine O’Grady, and more. All proceeds will benefit art programs that raise AIDS awareness and support HIV prevention.

Over 1,500 postcards have been donated—some painted, drawn on, collaged, or photographed—and each piece will be consistently priced at $85 dollars. The only catch is that all artworks will be displayed anonymously so purchasers will only be able to identify the artist after the artwork has been bought.

But if you want a little extra time to check out the works before the mad rush, you can attend a preview party the evening before (Friday, January 30th from 6-8 PM) for $50, which includes two raffle tickets for a chance to win first-choice of any postcard. The evening will also include a silent auction of art and VIP passes allowing the highest bidder to circumvent the line the following day when the benefit opens to the public.

Postcards from the Edge will be open Saturday, January 31, 10–6 PM and Sunday, February 1, 12–4 PM at Luhring Augustine, 531 W. 24th Street, NYC.
