Birthday celebrations are under way at Disney, which, this year, made it to the century mark. That’s no small feat, and Disney is no small company—indeed its stories and characters have saturated the culture like those of few other entertainment entities (especially now that Pixar and Marvel are under its umbrella). As you would expect, Disney is celebrating accordingly, with a documentary, Once Upon a Studio, on Disney+ (naturally), a royal ball (!), and the unveiling of a new statue of the company’s spiritual guide, Walt Disney.

But perhaps the pièce de résistance is Disney Create 100, a star-studded charity auction. The lots come from a who’s who of creators from the fashion, design, and art worlds.

Some of the starriest lots include a leotard worn by Beyoncé for her “Black Is King” music video (part of the soundtrack for 2019’s The Lion King), a solid crystal “glass slipper” from Swarovski, and a couture necklace from the Parisian brand Schiaparelli inspired by The Rescuers Down Under.

The fashion world is also duly represented by a portrait of Kate Moss as Tinkerbell by the beloved illustrator David Downton, an up-cycled Mickey Mouse custom shirt from the brand Maison Margiela, and a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt from the Marc Jacobs archives.

Clearly there are a ton of fashion bona fides in the mix, but Disney also cast a wide net, including collaborators from the art and design worlds. Perhaps the biggest and buzziest of their contributions is a multicolor wire sculpture of Mickey as the Sorcerer from Fantasia, designed by Alaska Alaska, the creative company founded by the late multi-hyphenate Virgil Abloh.

Prices range from a few hundred dollars to nearly $70,000 for the Schiaparelli necklace. Proceeds benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which Disney has had a relationship with for the better part of 40 years and which provides wishes for critically ill children.

Equally enchanting are an Yves Klein-blue resin sculpture of the iconic image of Mickey by the fashion and art collective Ader Error, a painting inspired by the Pixar movie Jazz by artist Reginald Armstrong, a graffiti print of Snow White’s Dopey from the South American street artist Revolue, a print of a collage of Mickey Mouse by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, or a drawing of Moana characters from longtime Disney art director Bill Schwab.
