A Frank Gehry house that is being billed as an “architectural connoisseur’s dream” and that sits on prime Malibu beachfront property is back on the market with an asking price of $33.9 million.
The owner initially offered the six-bedroom home in 2013 for some $57.5 million, according to Curbed Los Angeles. The new price tag represents a 40 percent drop for the residence designed by the starchitect behind iconic buildings like Spain’s Guggenheim Bilboa, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, in Paris, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, in Los Angeles.
Curbed reports that the house was built in 1989 on a 1.46-acre lot with 160 feet of beachfront, for insurance executive Burton Borman. In addition to the eye-catching mushroom-shaped roof that sits at the center of the house, the terracing design means that each of the 11,000-square-foot home’s three levels has spacious patios. A spiral staircase winds up from the bottom level, and the house also features a lap pool and tennis court along with eight full bathrooms and two half bathrooms.
The new offering of the property is due to a court-ordered sale, according to the listing, though no further detail is provided. The house’s listing agent, Kurt Rappoport, did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
Curbed asks: “Will the new price point and some time away from the market be enough to attract a buyer this time around? Hard to say, but there certainly aren’t many other properties with this combination of pedigree and prime beachfront location.”
