Frieze London has announced details for new initiatives at the upcoming fair, which will be held at its usual location at London’s Regent’s Park from October 15–18, also the same dates for the Frieze Masters show. According to organizers, the 2014 edition of Frieze (the 12th edition) will reflect a restructuring of the sections for participating galleries, with the introduction of “Live,” a showcase for performance-based work dispersed throughout the fair.

According to Frieze, the new “Live” section will provide the opportunity to

experience ambitious performance-based installations and will include works specially conceived for Frieze as well as the re-staging of a number of historical pieces. It will appear on a series of platforms that will be dispersed throughout the fair. New galleries to the fair exhibiting in this section include gb agency of Paris, Green Tea Gallery of Iwake, Japan, and Project Native Informant, London. The selection of galleries in this section is being advised by Nicola Lees, and supported by associate sponsor Alexander McQueen.

New participants to the fair include: Galerie Catherine Bastide (Brussels); Galeria Elba Benitez (Madrid); BQ (Berlin); Mary Mary (Glasgow); Galerie Greta Meert (Belgium); Galerie Nordenhake (Berlin); Shanghart Gallery (Shanghai); and Workplace Gallery (Gateshead). Solo presentations that “promise to be focal points in the fair” include: Mark Grotjahn at Anton Kern Gallery; Goshka Macuga at Kate MacGarry, Lee Kit at Vitamin Creative Space of Guangzhou, Martin Creed at Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle , Eric Bainbridge at Workplace Gallery, Koo Jeong A at Pilar Corrias and Barbara T. Smith at The Box of Los Angeles.

The “Focus” section of the fair has “evolved into a more significant section, dedicated to “fostering a community of the most exciting emerging galleries,” according to a statement from the organizers. Galleries in this section will present either solo or group shows that are conceived especially for Frieze. It is being advised by curators Raphael Gygax and Jacob Proctor, the latter of whom is a new addition this year.
