Even amid the relative lull of the holiday season, the big art fairs loom in the distance. Scheduled to run May 14–17, Frieze New York, held on Randall’s Island, will host close to 200 galleries during its 2015 edition, which will follow on the heels of the Venice Biennale opening.

“The fourth edition promises to be the best yet,” proclaimed directors Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp in a statement. “We’re delighted that Frieze has been embraced by both the local gallery scene and the city alike.” The upcoming fair will be the last with the duo at the helm, as Frieze Master director Victoria Siddall will take over the New York event in 2016 (see “Frieze Founders Hand Over Reins to New Director“).

First time exhibitors at Frieze New York will include Matthew Marks, Pace, Skarstedt, Acquavella, Blum & Poe, and Freedman Fitzpatrick. Overall, this year’s dealers hail from 33 territories, including Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Estonia and Colombia.

Spotlight, which made its debut at London’s Frieze Masters (see “Top Artists at Frieze Masters“) three years ago, will feature a selection of solo exhibitions of 20th century art. Adriano Pedrosa, recently appointed the artistic director of Brazil’s Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (see “Weekly Shuffle: New Curators at the Metropolitan and the Guggenheim and More“), will curate the new section. In a statement, he promised “strong presence of women artists and artists working outside Europe and America.”

As in years past, Frieze New York will also include Focus, for galleries founded since 2003, and Frame, curated by Raphael Gygax and Jacob Proctor, which presents solo exhibtions from galleries less than eight years old.
