An all-woman show is currently on view at the Gateway Project Spaces in Newark, New Jersey.
Titled “(Em)Power Dynamics: Exploring the Modes of Female Empowerment and Representation in America,” the exhibition is the second in a four-part series called Visualizing OUR Americana, thematically curated around race, gender, and queer identities in America, respectively.
(Em)Power Dynamics is inspired by two key works that embody the feminist art movement: Georgia O’Keeffe’s 1924 series of flower paintings and Ana Mendieta’s 1974 work Untitled (Facial Cosmetic Variations).

The gallery space, which comprises two levels of artist studios and a third level exhibition space/residency program, is co-directed by founder Rebecca Jampol and Jasmine Wahi.
“Every show that Rebecca and I curate is significant to me, and reinforces my belief in social awareness and activism through art,” Wahi said in a statement to artnet News. “(Em)power Dynamics no different; if anything, it feels more raw, visceral, and relevant in the context of my own personal life as a woman, and a woman of color.”
On the exhibition, Jampol says, “As a woman working in an industry of brilliant women, it is exciting to highlight these voices of strength and welcome this exhibition as part two of the ongoing curated series.”
