Berlin-based artist and 2006 recipient of the Hugo Boss Prize, John Bock has joined Berlin- and London-based gallery, Sprüth Magers. The gallery confirmed the move on Wednesday and announced that Bock will occupy the next slot on its Berlin exhibition calendar, opening a solo show on March 15th. In a statement to artnet News, Philomene Magers wrote:

“We have long admired John Bock’s work and when Klosterfelde closed its doors, we were really pleased to get the chance to work with him. From Klutterkammer (2004), his performance and installation at London’s ICA, to Above the point of the glowing silence (2013) in Venice last year, Bock has shown that his madcap wit is one of the sharpest in contemporary art. Overall, we feel his practice complements the program perfectly, and we’re excited to present his work at Independent this year and in our Berlin gallery in March.”

Known for his provocative assemblages and performance work, Bock is also represented by Anton Kern in New York and Regen Projects in Los Angeles. He was formerly a staple of Klosterfelde’s program in Berlin. Owner Martin Klosterfelde unexpectedly shut down the gallery late last summer, announcing a move to lead contemporary art for Phillips soon thereafter.
