London Art Week is taking place this week, which means the best of London’s Mayfair and St. James is on show for visitors who make it down to the West End.

The galleries taking part in the week-long event focus on art and antiquities up to the 20th century. The auction houses Sotheby’s London and Christie’s London are also taking part, with exhibitions specifically devised for it.

artnet News has handpicked the top five galleries you should definitely visit.

1. Agnew’s

Thomas Agnew and Sons was founded in Manchester in 1817, opening its London gallery in 1860. Since then, the gallery has established itself as one of the leading dealers in Old Master paintings.

Some of the great works which been sold through the gallery include those by Caravaggio, Anthony van Dyck, El Greco, Nicolas Poussin, Rembrandt, and Diego Velázquez. No doubt their exhibition for London Art Week will be worth a look.

2. Richard Green 

Established in 1955, Richard Green deals in works dating from the 17th to the 21th century. They have dealt in works spanning from Claude Monet and Jean Baptiste Camille Corot to Josef Albers.

Their exhibition “Important British, Impressionist and Old Master Paintings” is bound to include some visual treats.

3. Sam Fogg

Sam Fogg specialises in art from the European Middle Ages, Indian, and Islamic Art.

Their exhibition “Reclaiming Antiquity; creation and revival between the Fall of Rome and the Renaissance” focuses on cosmati work and opus sectile decorative stonework made between the 9th and 13th centuries.

4. Daniel Katz Ltd

Daniel Katz gallery, which has been dealing in Old Master sculpture since 1968, is showing “Rodin: From Private Collections,” which should provide a great opportunity to see work from the master sculptor of the Post-Impressionist movement.

5. Fondantico di Tiziana Sassoli

This is a chance to immerse yourself in a world of classical art, as the Bologna-based gallery is making a temporary home at London’s Gallery 8.

“Bolognese Old Master Paintings” will include works by Gaetano Gandolfi, Bartolomeo Schedoni, and Giovanni Antonio Burrini.
