If you want to enjoy the last days of summer in Germany, spend them in the cultural metropolis of Cologne. More than 100 galleries and art dealers are located in this city on the Rhine, which is known for being a carnival hot spot, as well as for hosting the world’s oldest art fair, Art Cologne. Among the famous cultural institutions located here is Museum Ludwig, which is exhibiting the latest video installation by Andrea Büttner. For a slice of history, the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst (Museum of East Asian Art) is hosting “Von Istanbul bis Yokohama,” a show featuring rare photographs of Asia taken between 1839 and 1900. Or, visit the opening reception at Galerie Boisserée, showing representational paintings by Ralph Fleck. Galerie Boisserée is one of the galleries participating in the DC Open. During the first weekend of September, numerous galleries in Cologne and Düsseldorf open their doors with unique shows. A comprehensive solo exhibition by Robert Polidori, “Exteriors and Interiors,” at Galerie Karsten Greve presents photographs by the artist. Or, see works by Hanno Otten at PRISKA PASQUER. New York- and Cologne-based artist Maya Hayuk has transformed the gallery Die Kunstagentin into an artist studio in her solo show “ALLES KLAR.” Whatever you prefer, enjoy your late summer in Germany, and viel Spaß mit der Kölner Kunst!
