Skyscrapers and other high-rise buildings give Frankfurt its nickname, Mainhattan, the fifth-largest city in Germany, located on the Main River. More than 60 museums and art exhibition venues can be found on the Museumsufer (Museum Riverbank)—much to the delight of art lovers. One of the most famous art museums in Germany, and Germany’s oldest museum, is the Städel Museum. In 1845, the museum was the first to exhibit photographic works. The long history of photography and the most important works in European photo art can be explored at the current exhibition, “Lichtbilder.” If you are interested in contemporary Finnish photography, you should visit the upcoming show “Potretti” (Finnish for portrait) at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt. Finland will be the Guest of Honor at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair.
Shining a spotlight on Manhattan is the gallery exhibition “New York. Just like I pictured it,” on view at Galerie Barbara von Stechow, with new works by American artist Tom Christopher. Other international artworks are on view at the Galerie AM PARK, which continues its exhibition series with paintings, sculptures, and prints by Spanish artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Salvador Dalí, and Antoni Tàpies. A picturesque city, located next to Frankfurt in the Rhine Main Region, is Wiesbaden. There, we recommend paying a visit to the exhibition featuring works by German sculptor Herbert Mehler at DavisKlemmGallery. Enjoy an Ebbelwoi (“apple wine,” the national drink of Frankfurt) in the Big Ebbel.
