We took a look at the calendar, and there are only 11 days left in August. Don’t waste a minute. The state’s fourth-largest city is hosting a series of exciting solo shows, offering something to suit every aspect of your cultural needs, from photography and sculpture to American and Japanese Art. This week’s focus on the Bay Area includes local artist Donald Feasél at Brian Gross Fine Art, who abstractly captures the aspects of energy and anatomy. Or catch two shows in one place by heading over to the Richmond District for shows at the Robert Koch Gallery, where artist Michael Wolf is presenting appropriated images of Paris from Google Street View, and at Haines Gallery, where Japanese artist Yoshitomo Saito is showing a selection of recent bronze works for his ninth exhibition in the space. If you’re in the mood to see colorful works by a modern master, head over to the SFMOMA, showcasing four decades of Matisse‘s career, including paintings, drawings, and bronzes. If solo shows aren’t doing it for you, be sure to check out the de Young Museum’s exhibition of modern and contemporary art, organized into three generational groupings, allowing for a remarkable overview of American art, from the end of World War II through the end of the century.
