New York is already the city that never sleeps, but with the slew of art fairs descending on Manhattan, you won’t even have time for a nap. From The Armory Show to VOLTA NY and from PULSE to SCOPE—be prepared to be overwhelmed with endless shows, events, and parties. But this week’s festivities aren’t limited to the fairs, and so we’ve compiled a list of must-see shows off of the piers and inside the galleries.

“Nice Weather,” a show curated by artist David Salle at Skarstedt’s two locations in the Upper East Side and Chelsea, is now on view and features works by a multigenerational group of painters that have never been shown together before. The exhibition questions the basic properties of painting, and examines the role of gesture as used by painters today. Another artist who examines form and is much-talked about these days—with his first retrospective in New York currently up at the MoMA—is Marcel Broodthaers. Coinciding with MoMA, Michael Werner Gallery is also showcasing the artist’s work by focusing on the particular importance of writing in his diverse practice. Expect to see a range of media by the artist, including one of the only paintings Broodthaers has ever made. From there, head downtown to see Jack Early’s largest solo exhibition to date at Fergus McCaffrey. Explore the artist’s fascination with the popular culture of his childhood by taking in his large-scale, photorealist paintings.

You have your itinerary, so don’t let the fairs take up all your time.
