A portrait of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge by Dan Llywelyn Hall is to be sold at Bonhams First World War Centenary Sale in London, Art Daily reported. The portrait, entitled Fatherhood (2014), depicts Prince William wearing a dark suit and a red tie with a poppy in his left lapel. The painting is estimated to sell for £8,000–10,000 ($13,000–16,200).

The sale marks an exceedingly rare opportunity to purchase a piece of royal portraiture. Llywelyn Hall’s is one of only three portraits ever painted of the Prince William. Most royal paintings are commissioned for institutions and seldom come up at public auction.

The proceeds from the portrait and other items in the First World War Centenary Sale will go to the Victoria Cross Trust and War memorials Trust.

Llywelyn Hall told Art Daily “Fatherhood, is a portrait about a universal theme: the concerns, hopes and aspirations of a family man. On the centenary of the Somme, where such horror consumed the lives of over a million people, it seems appropriate to support two charities that uphold the memory and acknowledge the legacy of our forefathers.”

The director of the War Memorials Trust, Frances Moreton said “War Memorials Trust is delighted to be a beneficiary of the sale of this portrait. All proceeds will go to supporting the work of protecting and conserving war memorials across the UK.”

Chairman of the Victoria Cross Trust, Gary Stapleton, added “It is great to see the nation’s heroes and those awarded with the Victoria cross to be immortalized through art…the proceeds from the auction will allow us to continue our vital work in restoring the graves of Victoria Cross heroes.”

The sale takes place on Wednesday and features 199 lots ranging from collectibles and memorabilia to paintings and posters.
