Three Chelsea galleries are soon to be homeless, thanks to the planned demolition of 540-544 West 26th Street, reports Gallerist. Tony Shafrazi Gallery, Lehmann Maupin, and Stephen Haller Gallery currently reside in the two-story building.

The site, which includes a parking lot next door, will be developed as a 130,000-square-foot commercial and office space with community facilities by the Manhattes Group LLC and Savanna.

While Stephen Haller has announced plant to relocate within Chelsea, and is actively looking for a new home, Tony Shafrazi Gallery and Lehmann Maupin have yet to comment on their impending evictions.

The project is part of a recent boom in development in the area. “I don’t know how well you know it,” Manhattes Group cofounder and partner Alan Shmaruk told Gallerist, “but West Chelsea is one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city.”

No word yet on when the galleries will be forced to shutter to make way for the wrecking ball.
