From a live donkey to a pickpocket roaming the aisles, this year’s edition of Frieze New York offers work ranging from the spectacular to the silent. Taking place on Randall’s Island through Sunday, the fair brings together more than two hundred dealers, offering works by over a thousand artists.

In this year’s two-minute video, we highlight Los Angeles artist Sean Raspet, who creates flavors and fragrances for a new company called Soylent, which, with a wink and a nod to the 1973 sci-fi classic Soylent Green, offers tasty meals in a bottle. He’s hosted by Berlin gallery Société.

We interview New York artist David Horvitz about his project, sponsored by the fair, in which a professional pickpocket is targeting fair visitors, but with good intentions. The sleight-of-hand expert is actually giving people a tiny artwork, created in an edition especially for the fair. (Horvitz’s other claim to fame is that he delivered his own baby while he and his wife were in an Uber on their way to the hospital.)

Also on hand is Canada gallery, from New York’s Lower East Side. It has set up a booth you can’t miss, with Moroccan rugs all over the floor, a reclining chair, and walls chockablock full of paintings by various gallery artists, all curated by painter Katherine Bernhardt.

Stick with us through the full two minutes for a glimpse of an artwork you might find in your pocket or your bag on the ferry ride back to Manhattan.
